🎬 Tonight, we celebrate the extraordinary talents of @idyfilm, both behind the lens and on the screen after 9 months of pre-production. The best-of-show screenings and awards will be presented at William M. Lowman Concert Hall from 6-8pm.

Join @fresnelluca as he takes you through his day as a sophomore theatre major during the last week of the school year…right into an evening of festivities beginning with a black-tie red carpet. It is certain to be ablaze with anticipation for an exciting awards ceremony, offering well-deserved recognition to our film students. 🎥🎞🏆

From Chamber Music to Jazz Combos, Vocal Concerts and a very special Concerto Competition, our music department has been sharing a symphony of sheer talent 🎹🎺🥁

The six finalists of the Concerto Competition dazzled the audience and adjudicator alike as they took the stage with flair, passion, and precision—so much so that it made the task of choosing our winners a happy challenge for our judges. A big congratulations to Seoyeon Bay who came in 1st, Robert Nael 2nd and an honorable mention to JV Zamoyta.

Bravo to our incredible music department and educators all around! Their dedication, talent, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire us all, proving that the language of music knows no bounds, and unites us in the most beautiful way. 🎻🎉🌏

Annnnnd, that's a wrap! The cast and crew of Bat Boy: The Musical graced our community with four showings of the epic 2-act horror rock musical last weekend. 🦇🎸

There's still a buzz around campus about what you thought was the best song, your favorite part of the show, and the funniest scenes...

Bravo to everyone involved in this high-quality production. We have to admit, we haven't quite been able to get 🎶 HOLD ME BAT BOY 🎶 out of our heads!

On Friday evening, we enjoyed the opening reception for SUBLIMINAL, our 9th and 10th graders' gallery show including a variety of media and dimensionality. 🌬

Tomorrow, May 18th, is the last day you can enjoy their works being displayed at the Parks Exhibition Center on campus. 🖼

Subliminal means "affecting one without noticing." We all change subliminally as humans and artists as we find inspiration and motivation from our environment, our teachers, our friends, and other artists and art forms. This year's Visual Arts 9th and 10th graders are proud to showcase how they have polished the basic techniques they have learned, and how they are developing into unique artists with broad ideas.

Please join us in celebrating their beautiful works, appreciating their deep effort, and perhaps you'll walk away with some new inspiration of your own!

👏 The opening reception for our 2023-year-end student showcase @melissamorganfineart in beautiful Palm Desert was a huge success! 🌴

We couldn't have been more excited for our visual arts students, who had the opportunity to show and sell their art for 3 days, with 100% of sales benefiting the artists. Featured this weekend were 50+ works of their art in a variety of mediums, both 2D and 3D. During a breezy golden hour, our songwriting majors graced us with their original music in the @mmfacommunitypage sculpture garden to close out the show. 💎🎶

A heartfelt thanks to all who contributed their expertise, talents, time and energy - and to those who attended, making this such a special evening.

The Student Choreography Concert ran as a 3-night public evening performance in Fisher Dance Studio last week. The student-designed and directed sets dazzled audiences, with a variety of dance types, interpretations and music selections.

Last weekend, the IAA Jazz Department traveled to the Reno Jazz Festival. This is the largest jazz festival in the Western United States and it is coordinated by @unevadareno, which boasts a robust jazz studies program.

At the festival, our students had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses and clinics where they received professional feedback and review from judges. They also were able to enjoy the inspirational showcase of other students' performances.

Idyllwild Arts students who attended were from Jazz Combos A and B: @haru_imanishi, @d.vidl, @joji_zzzz, @philippelebois, @caleblevandal, @isidoresmartsammy, @howeydrum2006. They were accompanied by music faculty @amclau89 and Paul Carman. 🥁🎷🎸🎹

The whole department shared their strongest selection of original work, supported by our newest Songwriting faculty member Katie Earl-Hogan (you may know her from @theblushesband and @themowglis). The program included everything from folk and country to pop and hip-hop, with a bonus original song & video from senior Brynn Schneider, who made great use of her Arts Enterprise Laboratory (AEL) grant award for this special project.

🆕🎙Episode 10 of One World. One Idyllwild. "Cultivate the Not Knowing" features Dr. Lorne Buchman, President Emeritus of ArtCenter College of Design, an international leader in art and design education. This podcast series brings together thought leaders, creatives, influencers and change-makers, highlighting the work of citizen artists whose careers and lives have been shaped by the transformative power of art.

During Buchman’s presidency, the College increased the undergraduate and graduate degree programs and realized record enrollments. His passion and deep commitment to excellence in education has generated an unprecedented response from alumni and foundations. As part of the president’s advocacy for the value of art and design to audiences beyond academia, Buchman hosts the podcast, Change Lab: Conversations on Transformation and Creativity. Dr. Buchman has served as president of both Saybrook University and California College of the Arts and is a trained theater director and scholar. Buchman is the author of Still in Movement: Shakespeare on Screen. His book, Make to Know: From Spaces of Uncertainty to Creative Discovery, was published by Thames & Hudson in August of last year.
